The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT
educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program in Tobago allows trained persons to be better prepared to respond to an emergency situation in their communities. When emergencies occur, CERT Technicians can give critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims, and organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site. CERT members can also help with non-emergency projects that help improve the safety of the community.
Since 2011, PODS has proudly outfitted Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) employees of the Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) from head to toes with customized and branded:
- EMS Shirts
- EMS Pants
- Tactical Belts
- Tactical Boots
“Similarly, other regional corporations have adopted the CERT model and through their Disaster Management Units, have trained many volunteers within their communities to become part of the CERT programme. This practical training was designed to help the local communities and volunteer emergency responders develop the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and effectively manage during a hazard impact until rescue teams arrive.
On Saturday 7th September, the Diego Martin Regional Corporation in collaboration with the Congress of the People, hosted its award cerremony for CERT volunteers who successfully completed the CERT training. Each participant received their individual CERT kits.
